Youth baseball: Chiba City, Japan locks up berth to LLWS

Associated Press

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Chiba City, Japan, is the latest entry into this year’s Little League World Series.

The Japanese team earned a trip to South Williamsport after winning its national tournament on Sunday. Chiba City’s only other trip to the World Series was in 2005.
Chiba City joins teams from Taiwan and Venezuela in securing spots this year.
The 10-day tournament begins Aug. 21, with eight international teams and eight U.S. teams vying for the biggest prize in youth baseball.
Berths in the U.S. bracket won’t be decided until next month.
