A 19-year-old Kalihi man who was arrested Monday in connection with a stabbing Sunday night in Kalihi has been charged with second-degree assault.

Bail for Lance C. Moaila was set at $100,000.

Moaila turned himself in at the Kalihi police substation about 9:30 p.m. Monday.

According to a police affidavit filed in District Court, investigators were told that a 32-year-old man was stabbed after he tried to break up a fight between Moaila and another man.

The two men were fighting near the corner of Pu'uhale Road and Ahu'ula Street about 9:45 p.m. Sunday when the victim tried to intervene, the affidavit said.

The two men had been at a party at a nearby home on Mokauea Street when they got into an argument and left, the affidavit said. A third man, who had also been at the party, also left and was trying to break up the fight when Moaila allegedly stabbed him twice in the back, the affidavit said.

The victim was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, but his condition later improved to serious condition.

The victim and two other people who were at the party were shown a photographic lineup on Monday and all three separately identified Moaila as the assailant, the affidavit said.
