No decision on layoffs yet, Lingle says

Gov. Linda Lingle said today she has made no decision on layoffs yet, and will consult with the state attorney general before she makes any decision.

“An injunction means that this is temporary, and it means that we now have to come in and make our case," Lingle said, following a groundbreaking ceremony in Kapolei.
“This doesn’t mean that we can’t go forward eventually. What the judge said today was that there’s enough disagreement that you need to come in and put on a case. And we’re certainly prepared to do that.”
Lingle said she would meet with Attorney General Mark Bennett to discuss what the next step would be, and what the options are.
“As you know, one of the alternatives is layoffs," Lingle said. "I think everyone wants to avoid that. So, we’ll wait and see how this all plays out.
“I think people just need to recognize that we can’t afford the government we have. We have to make adjustments. Our goal all along has been to avoid layoffs, and we’ll continue to try to do that.”
