No. 1 Alabama edges Hawaii, 1-0

After upsetting No. 23 Ohio State earlier in the day, the University of Hawai'i softball team pushed No. 1 Alabama to the limit before losing, 1-0, in extra innings at the Cathedral City Classic in Cathedral City, Calif.
Amanda Locke's RBI single to short with one out in the bottom of the eighth won it for the Crimson Tide (12-1).
UH freshman Stephanie Ricketts went the distance, allowing four hits to a team that was batting .369 on the season. She struck out 11.
Clare Warwick and Amanda Tauali'i each batted 2 for 3 for the Rainbow Wahine (3-11), who had the bases loaded with one out in the top of the eighth before All-America reliever Kelsi Dunne struck out the next two batters.
Earlier, Tauali'i hit a grand slam and Courtney Baughman pitched a complete game as the 'Bows beat the Buckeyes, 4-2.
Baughman, who has all of the wins for UH this season, allowed two runs and four hits in the bottom of the first inning, then shut out Ohio State the rest of the way on four more hits.
Tauali'i's grand slam came with one out in the fifth against Kim Reeder, the reigning national player of the week. Reeder took the loss, allowing six hits while striking out 12.
Tanisha Milca batted 2 for 3 for UH.
WATER POLO
UH TAKES TWO
The third-ranked University of Hawai'i women's water polo team won two matches yesterday in the first two rounds of the UC Irvine Invitational at Irvine, Calif.
Kelly Mason scored six goals and Lisa van Raalte four as the Rainbow Wahine (8-4) beat No. 13 Cal State Northridge, 14-10.
UH then beat San Diego State, 9-5, behind three goals from Leonie Van Der Molen.
UH wraps up tournament play today against No. 2 Stanford.

HPU SWEEPS
Jacob Valentine had three doubles and four RBIs, and Caelan O'Meara struck out 11 in five innings as Hawai'i Pacific beat Academy of Art, 18-0, yesterday to complete a doubleheader sweep at Hans L'Orange Field.
Aaron Asher added two hits and three RBIs for the Sea Warriors (7-0).
In the opener, Jonah Hobson had two hits, including a two-run single in a four-run second, as HPU won, 5-2. Turhan Folse scattered six hits in six innings to earn the victory.
