State wrestling updates: Girls results

Here are the girls championship results from the Chevron Wrestling State Championships at Blaisdell:

98 pounds

Championship

Taylor Ibera (Farrington) pinned Darian Auna (Kahuku) at 1:15.

There was no score until Ibera scored a takedown in the middle of the mat about 1 minute in. Ibera then positioned Auna for the pin.

Third place

Nicole Taniguchi (Punahou) pin Brittany Bermudez-Lynch (Lahainaluna), 3:35

Fifth place

Meghan Chun (St. Andrew's) dec. Megan Aina (Kamehameha-Hawaii), 7-3

103 pounds

Championship

Malia Medeiros (Kamehameha-Maui) def. Alexandra Aoki (Konawaena), 8-2.

Medeiros led 2-0 after a takedown in the first period, but Aoki tied it at 2-2 on a reversal at 2:15 after starting in the down position. Medeiros took a 3-2 lead on an escape and scored another escape to start the third period. She then had a takedown and nearfall in the final 30 seconds.

Achlene Paclib (Moanalua) pin Andrina Ramos (Kahuku) 4:43

Fifth place

Sheri Tabion (Kapolei) def. Keiko Akamine ('Iolani), forfeit

108 pounds

Championship

Macy Yonamine (Kamehameha) def. Marisa Fukunaga (Roosevelt), 9-8.

Yonamine led 6-2 after three takedowns in the first period and surrendering two escape points to Fukunaga.

Yonamine started the second period in the down position and scored a reversal to make it 8-2, but Fukunaga escaped and later scored a takedown to close it to 8-5 entering the third. Fukunaga then started the third period with an escape, and had a takedown at 5:20 to tie it at 8-8.

But Yonamine escaped about 10 seconds later and held on for the victory.

Briana Delos Santos (Pearl City) dec. Kala'e Johnson (Kahuku), 2-0

Fifth place

Kaety Enos (Hawai'i Baptist) pin Kazia Lecker (Lahainaluna), 1:25

114 pounds

Championship

Kelly Ancheta (Pearl City) pinned Kalin Curran (Campbell) at 1:15.

Ancheta scored a takedown at 50 seconds to go up 2-0 before the pin.

Third place

Chrissy Chow (Punahou) pin Kehau Kamaka'ala (Kahuku), 5:46

Kari Watase ('Iolani) dec. Keaka Wallace (Kamehameha-Maui), 6-0

120 pounds

Championship

Joy Yamashita ('Aiea) def. Megan Yamaguchi (Kalani) by forfeit.

After a scoreless first period, Yamashita escaped from the down position to take a 1-0 lead. She then had a takedown at 3:02, and Yamaguchi suffered an arm injury forcing her to forfeit the match.
