FEMA disaster recovery centers closing Saturday

Advertiser Staff

Disaster recovery centers at La'ie and Wai'anae will be closed for good at 5 p.m. Saturday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced yesterday.

The centers were opened in response to damage caused by rain and flooding in December.

The Hale'iwa center, at the Waialua Community Association at 66-434 Kamehameha Hwy., will remain open. Its hours are noon to 8 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

O'ahu residents who are seeking assistance are encouraged to register with FEMA before visiting a recovery center by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or via TTY device at 800-462-7585 for people who are speech- or hearing-impaired.

The deadline to register for assistance is March 6.
