Visitor from Washington dies while snorkeling

Advertiser Staff

A 62-year-old visitor from Washington died yesterday after snorkeling in 'Anaeho'omalu Bay on the Big Island's South Kohala Coast.

Police said John Linde of Friday Harbor, Wash., was snorkeling with a friend when that person returned to shore at about 10 yesterday morning. A charter snorkeling boat later discovered Linde floating about 75 yards off shore.

People on the vessel performed CPR until emergency personnel arrived. Linde was taken to the North Hawaii Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:20 a.m., police said.

An autopsy will be performed.
