SAN FRANCISCO � The San Francisco Giants have optioned right-hander Joe Martinez to Triple-A Fresno and brought up lefty reliever Alex Hinshaw to provide a much-needed arm in their overworked bullpen.

The Giants made the move before Friday night�s game with Colorado.
The way the schedule goes, the Giants don�t need a fifth starter until a series in Milwaukee starting Sept. 4.
Hinshaw, who was on San Francisco�s opening day roster for the fifth time in his career and pitched in seven games, appeared in 46 games for Fresno this season and posted a 3.96 ERA.
Martinez was the losing pitcher in the Giants� 11-0 defeat to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night.
