Navy command honored for safety program

Advertiser Staff

Naval Facilities Engineering Command Hawaii was presented the Secretary of the Navy Safety Ashore Award in the Medium Industrial Activity category yesterday.

The award was presented by Rear Adm. Wayne Shear, commander, NAVFAC, during his visit to Pearl Harbor yesterday. This is the second straight year that NAVFAC Hawaiçi has won the top safety award and follows the Chief of Naval Operations Safety Ashore Award, which the command also took in successive years.
The Secretary of the Navy Safety Ashore Award recognizes commands that “adhere to effective risk management and hazard reduction principles.” NAVFAC Hawaii was recognized for its “stretch and flex” program, an employee fitness program that has helped reduce lost work days by 82 percent over three years.
