Obama’s aunt says president was born in Hawaii

CLEVELAND — President Obama’s aunt, who is fighting deportation, says her nephew was born in Hawaii and she can’t understand claims that he is not a natural-born American citizen.
In an interview with WKYC-TV in Cleveland, Zeituni Onyango says the president’s late mother didn’t give birth in Kenya.
So-called “birthers” claim Obama is ineligible to be president because, they argue, he was born outside the United States.
The 57-year-old Onyango declined to discuss her Feb. 4 immigration hearing in Boston.
Onyango, the half-sister of Obama’s late father, has been living illegally in the U.S. She had been staying with relatives in Cleveland but moved to Boston in December. It’s not clear where she is living now.
A spokesman for Onyango’s lawyer in Cleveland had no comment on the interview Thursday.
