Mighty Mo hosts 'Friends and Film on the Fantail' event Saturday

Advertiser staff

The Battleship Missouri Memorial will host its third “Friends and Film on the Fantail” event of the year from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday.
Visitors and kama‘aina are invited to this event.
Guests will see the family film, “The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep” and take special tours to historic Surrender Deck and inside Gun Turret No. 1.
The evening’s featured film will be “The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep” (rated PG), a fantasy film based on Dick King-Smith’s children’s novel, “The Water Horse.” The film stars Emily Watson and Alex Etel in a story about a young boy who discovers a mysterious egg and cares for what hatches out of it – a “water horse” that later becomes the fabled Loch Ness Monster.
In addition to the film, guests will have the opportunity to tour the Battleship Missouri’s Surrender Deck, the site of Imperial Japan’s unconditional surrender on Sept. 2, 1945. (This year, the memorial will commemorate the 64th anniversary of the end of World War II with a free, public ceremony on the ship’s fantail.) The evening will also include a tour to Gun Turret No. 1, one of three main gun turrets, each supporting three 16-inch barrel guns that are the battleship’s trademark features, and is normally included in the upgraded Explorer’s Tour.
The event is free for members of the “Friends of the Mighty Mo” program. Non-members can attend for $40 per person and a guest, or $75 for a family of four. The admission price will also include a free one-year membership to the “Friends of the Mighty Mo” program.
Space is limited. Those interested in attending must RSVP at http://www.MightyMoMembers.org/rsvp.
