The state Department of Health says a woman posing as a representative of the agency has allegedly demanded to see permits, licenses and other confidential documents from several Kauai restaurants.

Businesses are advised not to allow access to anyone claiming to be an employee of the health department without valid identification.
“All health department officials are required to have a valid State of Hawaii DOH employee photo identification card,” said Darren Tamekazu of the Kauai District Health Office. “This DOH photo ID card must be presented upon request. Business owners should not allow persons without a valid proof of identification access to business or other personal records.”
If approached by a person claiming to represent the DOH and requesting entry or documents without proper identification, businesses are advised to contact the Department of Health and the police.
Any health official requesting entry into a place of business without proper identification should be denied. Businesses are advised to not release any personal information such as insurance records and social security numbers.
