NBA: Ole Miss G David Huertas decides to turn pro

Associated Press

JACKSON, Miss. — David Huertas, Mississippi's leading scorer and a second-team all-Southeastern Conference selection, has quit school and returned to Puerto Rico.

The school announced Monday that Huertas had decided to leave school.

The Puerto Rican newspaper, El Vocero, says Huertas has signed to play with a professional team, the Quebradillas Pirates of the Superior National Basketball League.

Huertas is the second starter to leave Ole Miss in the last month. Center Malcolm White left the team a few days after the season ended, saying he wanted to be closer to home in Baton Rouge, La.

Huertas, a transfer from Florida, averaged 18.1 points per game this season and was a key contributor to a team that lost several players to injury.
