Houston named WAC Player of the Week, UH remains at No. 7

University of Hawai'i outside hitter Jamie Houston was named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week today, the second time she's received that honor in the last three weeks.

Also today, Hawai'i (11-2, 4-0 WAC) remained at No. 7 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. Penn State is ranked first.

Houston averaged 6.17 kills and 2.33 digs per set while hitting .308 as she led the Rainbow Wahine to a 2-0 record in their first two road matches of the year. The senior posted 21 kills on .341 hitting with 11 digs in a win at Louisiana Tech for her second double-double of the season. She then had a match-high 16 kills in a sweep of New Mexico State on Saturday. Houston is now averaging 4.38 kills, 1.65 digs and 0.65 blocks per set for the season, including a 5.50 kills per set average in WAC play.

The honor is also the third straight for the Rainbow Wahine. Houston won the honor on Sept. 15 and Kanani Herring won the award on Sept. 22.

Hawai'i finishes its first road trip of the season at at San Jose State today. The match starts at 4 p.m. Hawai'i time.
