Johnson is best known for her popular Vietnamese nail salon sketch — the video was a hit on YouTube with more than 8 million views over the past year. The San Jose native was also a member of MADtv during the show's 13th season.

The Broadway hit musical "Miss Saigon" — the story of a classic love triangle set in the 1970s Saigon during the Vietnam War — opens at Windward Community College's Paliku Theatre. The company includes three people with "Saigon" credits on Broadway or in the national touring company: Jade Stice as Ellen; Michael Scott Bright as Chris; and Bright's wife, choreographer and swing performer Jade Anguay Bright. Amy Hanaiali'i, whose latest CD, "'Aumakua," was recently released, joins the Honolulu Symphony for a pair of Toyota Pops concerts. She will share the stage with Grammy-winning slack-key guitarist Jeff Peterson. Willie K originally was scheduled for these pops concerts but had scheduling conflicts.

The annual fundraiser Taste at Kapolei takes on a "green" theme, using environmentally friendly dinnerware, fireworks and recyclable products. More than 20 O'ahu restaurants, including the Moana Surfrider's Beach House and the Top of Waikiki, are scheduled to participate. There will be a Kids Zone, entertainment, farmers market and a silent auction, too. Tickets are $5 cheaper if you get them early. Proceeds go to Leeward O'ahu community and educational programs.

The sixth annual Splendor of China Cultural Festival and Tradeshow showcases performances by magicians, acrobats, comedians and musicians from Beijing, cultural displays and more than 130 vendors. Chef Martin Yan, host of "Yan Can Cook," will give a cooking demo.

Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band make their Hawai'i debut with a concert at Pipeline. Former frontman of a number of '90s bands, including Bright Eyes, Desaparecidos and Park Ave., Oberst established himself as a defining singer/songwriter. Last month his first self-titled solo album in over 10 years was released to rave reviews.

Bishop Museum's Moonlight Mele summer concert ends with a delayed performance by The Makaha Sons, from left, John Koko, Louis "Moon" Kauakahi and Jerome Koko. The concert, originally scheduled in August, was postponed because of John Koko's health issues. Bring a beach mat or low-backed chairs and stake your place on the museum's Great Lawn; there will also food available for purchase from local eateries. Tickets purchased for the August concert will be honored.

"Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto ..." Oh yes, Styx returns to the Islands after 25 years. The American rock band of the '70s and '80s is best known for hits songs such as "Renegade," "Lady," "Come Sail Away" and "Too Much Time on My Hands." After taking a three-year break, Styx reunited in 1995 and hasn't stopped rocking since.

CLUBS: OCT. 9-11

DJ/musician Mark Farina, known for his Chicago house, acid jazz and downtempo sound, headlines the Mushroom Music Festival 2008. The festival, which also showcases local DJs G-Spot, Daniel J and Ikon, stops in Kaua'i, Maui and O'ahu. Special guest Lady Miss Kier, lead singer of the '90s pop group Deee-Lite, and DJ Sparx also perform at the O'ahu show.
