The Wai'anae Coast Coalition, and the Makaha Resort and Golf Club, are sponsoring a week-long festival this month featuring cultural exhibits, music and food.

Beginning Sept. 21, "Hoike 'Ike 'O Wai'anae" will feature demonstrations, food, music and tours.

The festival was created to bring the kaiaulu, or community, of Wai'anae together and instill respect, pride and good will by perpetuating all cultures of the area, according to organizers.

Among the events are a Hawaiian quilt exhibit and demonstration; a grand lu'au buffet honoring Queen Lili'uokalani; and a Wai'anae-focused Hawaiian song competition. Call 696-7998 for information.
