Shark warning signs were removed this morning from the shore fronting the Chun's Reef surfing area near Haleiwa on O'ahu's North Shore, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department.
Cheplic said the signs were posted Thursday afternoon after a city lifeguard on routine patrol spotted a 10- to 12-foot shark in the Chun's Reef Laniakea area. Approximately six people who were taking surf lessons were instructed to get out of the water, Cheplic said.
Although no sharks were spotted in the water this morning, surfers and others who plan to enter the water today should check with area lifeguards, Cheplic said.
