Kahului School's basketball courts and Kenolio Recreation Center's Building "D" in Kihei will be closed early next month for renovations, Maui County's Department of Parks and Recreation announced today.

The Kahului School courts will be closed for four weeks starting Nov. 3 for repairs and resurfacing. All Island Surfacing is doing the $20,488 project.

Kenolio Recreation Center's Building "D" is scheduled to be closed Nov. 5 for major renovations which includes demolition of exterior and interior walls, construction of concrete block walls, installation of new windows and doors within the same footprint, and and interior finish work. The $505,555 contract was awarded to Arisumi Brothers Inc.

Estimated completion date is Feb. 27, 2009.

The building has not been in use due to its poor condition. After the renovation is complete, it will be used primarily for County Parks

programs, including community classes and as a PALS (Play and Learn Sessions) site.
