WIND DAMAGE REPORTED
Wind damages roof of Young Street home
Advertiser Staff
The fire department was called out today to apply a temporary fix to a roof that partially blew off of a Young Street home late this morning.
Capt. Terry Seelig said a gust of wind lifted a corner of the roof, allowing water to get into the dwelling below.
The building, between Pensacola and Ke'eaumoku streets, sustained little damage and there were no injuries, Seelig said.
The department was there to remove debris that could fall and injure people and to put tar paper down until the owner could fix the roof, he said.
Seelig said the wind is gusting and the weather service said it was not unusual to have pockets of gusty winds in some areas, but overall the wind speed is coming down.
At about noon, Honolulu was experiencing winds of 22 mph from the northeast, with gusts to 31 mph.
