Angels appear in times of need

 •  Better health through prayer

By Faith Irving

"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." (KJV, Heb. 13:2)

I'd like to share this experience to focus on the many ways Christ has made his presence and spirit known to me in my life and continues to do so.

I have Parkinson's disease. I've had it for 22 years.

My disability has its ups and downs. I've encountered many Good Samaritans who've graciously extended their helpful hands when my legs would freeze.

And then there have been those who'd rather not get involved, which is understandable.

I try to acknowledge these acts of kindness verbally or in writing as much as possible.

Over the years, I've come to rely on my faith and trust in the one on high when I find myself in precarious, often stressful, circumstances.

This random act of kindness took place in June 2004, on a hot, sunny afternoon when I had an X-ray appointment.

Struggling to inch along the lengthy walkway with my walker as I was experiencing freezing up of my legs, I began feeling hesitant, insecure ... and found myself softly praying, "Lord, I need your help; I cannot make it on my own. Please help me, Lord."

In addition, my lower backache, because of a spinal condition, made me feel as though I might not be able to hold myself up much longer.

I looked up then and caught sight of a gentleman exiting the building and heading my way.

"Looks like you could use a wheelchair now," he said.

"Is there one available?" I responded.

He said he worked in the building (which houses medical offices) and that he'd go in and check.

Before he left, he situated my walker with the seat away from the direct sunlight so I could sit comfortably.

In a matter of minutes, he reappeared, followed by a nurse pushing a wheelchair. Further, he accompanied us back to the office, carrying my walker.

You cannot imagine the deep feeling of gratitude and appreciation that welled within me at the spontaneous display of extreme kindness and caring of this stranger, who mentioned that he was a naturopath named Kevin.

I thanked him as I smilingly told him, "You're an angel."

I also expressed my sincere gratitude to the helpful nurse for wheeling me to the office.

Reflectively, I thought, "God did hear my prayer for help and sent me angels in my time of need."

"God is my refuge and strength; a very present help in trouble." (KJV, Psalms 46:1)
