Mokulele Highway widening complete

The state Department of Transportation and Goodfellow Bros. Inc. will hold a dedication ceremony at 11 a.m. tomorrow to celebrate the completion of the Mokulele Highway widening project.

The event will be held at the Maui Humane Society, located alongside the highway just south of the Mehameha Loop intersection.

Following the ceremony, the newly constructed Kihei-bound lanes of Mokulele Highway will be opened to traffic from the animal shelter to Pi'ilani Highway. The DOT said only one Kahului-bound lane will be in use until re-striping is completed in one to two weeks.

Two new traffic signals will be in operation at the intersection of Mokulele Highway and Pi'ilani Highway, and at the intersection of North and South Kihei roads.
