Moanalua High School junior Tadd Fujikawa shot a 2-under-par 70 in the opening round of the Munsingwear Open KSB Cup Thursday at Tojigaoka Marine Hills Golf Club in Okayama, Japan. Fujikawa, who had an early tee time, was tied for 28th with 21 golfers still on the course at this edition's deadline.

The co-leaders in the $971,000 Japan Golf Tour Organization event are Hideto Tanihara and Nobuhito Sato, who each shot 65.

Fujikawa, 17, birdied two of his first four holes to make the turn in 34. He added another birdie at the 11th to climb into the top 10, but bogeyed Nos. 15 and 16 before rallying for his fourth birdie at the 17th. He needed just 26 putts in his round.

Defending champion Ryo Ishikawa, 16, opened with a 78.

The top 60 and ties after the second round make the cut.

Fujikawa is coming off a 48th-place finish earlier this month at The Crowns in Japan. That was the first time he made a cut on the JGTO tour and the second time he made a cut since turning pro last year.
