DULUTH, Ga. — Honolulu's Parker McLachlin shot a 6-under-par 66 and was tied for the lead yesterday when play was suspended because of darkness in the first round of the AT&T Classic at the TPC Sugarloaf.
McLachlin, a Punahou School alum, was one of the early finishers in wet conditions that caused delays in play. Kenny Perry, Jonathan Kaye, Ryan Palmer and Jonathan Byrd also shot 66. Thirty-five players were not able to finish their rounds.
McLachlin had seven birdies — four on the front nine — with his only bogey on the par-4 No. 13. He sank a 25-foot birdie putt on the par-3 No. 16.
"I putted pretty well on the first nine and then just kind of — I wasn't hitting it great," McLachlin said. "On the back nine I figured out something in my swing. I kept putting real good. That's always a good combination when you can sort of mesh the two together."
Kane'ohe's Dean Wilson, who started on the back nine, shot a 73.
