Haze expected to clear gradually from Isle skies

Hazy skies are expected to linger but should start to clear over the Big Island starting tomorrow and the rest of the state early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Weather conditions that are keeping winds light and variable are forecast to shift to the north tonight and bring easterly winds to the Big Island, said meteorologist Victor Dejesus.

Although the winds will be light, they should be enough to blow the vog out to sea and away from the more populated areas of the island, he said.

"I don't anticipate it being quite as bad as it's been," Dejesus said. "You should see some easterly flow over the Big Island, which will give them some relief for the weekend."

But Dejesus said the vog will continue to be around for the rest of the state until more traditional trade winds return.

"We'll kind of get back into a light trade wind pattern next week, which will hopefully get life back to normal," Dejesus said. "It should clear things up because with no winds everything just kind of sits and stagnates."
