Two people were killed and five others sent to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition late Thursday night in a head-on crash in Nanakuli, officials said.
The accident was reported at 10:22 p.m. on Farrington Highway near the intersection with Hakimo Road.
According to witness statements, it appeared a Honolulu-bound pickup truck crossed the center line and hit a Makaha-bound car.
The Chevy S-10 flipped and landed upside-down in the yard of a house at the corner of Farrington Highway and Akowai Road.
Killed were a child in the car and a man in his late 20s or early 30s, city emergency services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said.
The child was pronounced dead at Queen's. The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:13 p.m., Cheplic said. A witness said he was the driver of the truck.
The child was a passenger in a car with three other people, all of whom went to Queen's in serious condition: a man in his late 20s, a woman in her early 20s and a girl who appeared to be 1 year old, Cheplic said.
Two occupants of the truck also went to Queen's in serious condition: a woman in her late 30s and a woman in her late 20s.
The westbound lanes of Farrington Highway were closed. Traffic was being detoured up Hakimo, onto Akowai Road and back onto Farrington Highway.
