Man badly hurt on Kauai; witnesses subdue assailant

Advertiser Staff

LIHU'E — A 49-year-old man stabbed at Kapa'a's Fuji Beach yesterday afternoon remains in serious condition at Wilcox Hospital this afternoon.

The man has been identified as Curtis Bupp II and his alleged assailant as Joshua Sesco, 29, said Kaua'i Assistant Police Chief Roy Asher. Both men are from Kapa'a.

Sesco is in police custody today and is expected to be charged with attempted murder, Asher said.

Sesco was treated at the hospital for injuries received from witnesses to the stabbing, Asher said. Bystanders held Sesco until police arrived on the scene, he said.

Two men were arrested yesterday for questioning into the possible beating of Sesco, but were released pending further investigation, he said.

The men were at Fuji Beach when police responded at 4:30 p.m. yesterday to a fight in progress, Asher said. Witnesses told police the attacker was injured when he was subdued by bystanders.

Police have no motive in the case and an investigation continues, Asher said.

Police ask anyone who saw the incident to contact Detectives Jimmy Kurasaki at 808-241-1681 or Joseph Adric at 808-241-1686.
