Top seeds advance in state tennis

All four top seeds advanced to today's quarterfinals of the Carlsmith Ball/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association State Tennis Championships at Holua Tennis Center and Outrigger Keauhou Resort on the Big Island.

Top seed Matthew Westmoreland of Island Pacific Academy defeated Holden Au of Mililani, 6-0, 6-3, in the second round and Erik Pang of Punahou, 6-3, 6-1, in the third round.

Kristin Lim of Punahou, the girls' top seed, defeated Gabriella Fortunato of Roosevelt, 6-0, 6-1, and Jan Matsumoto of Maryknoll, 6-7 (8), 6-4, 6-1.

In second-round doubles, No. 1 Alex Ching and Erik Shoji of Punahou defeated Travis Morita and Kellen Yamamoto of Waiakea, 6-0, 6-2, and Austin Kamimura and Scott Kawamura of 'Aiea, 6-1, 6-1, in the third round.

In girls doubles, top seeds Ashley Ohira and Ashley Nakaoka of Punahou beat Tiffany Lozano and Brittany Lesher of Leilehua, 6-0, 6-0, and Briana Feliciano and Michelle Soga of Maui, 6-0, 6-0.
