Some of the best 'Ewa has to offer will be showcased tomorrow at Pride 4 Ewa 2008. It runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Keaunui Park, also known as Area 29, in Ewa by Gentry's northeastern section.

There will be games and entertainment for youngsters, entertainment, craft booths, food booths, lucky number drawings and a resource fair displaying the programs and activities available for keiki living in the 'Ewa community. Clubs and organizations holding fundraisers will also be on hand.

Admission and parking are free.

Main sponsorship of the event is provided by the Ewa By Gentry Community Association. Karen Ashby, activities director, said the goal of the event is to promote youth programs aimed at directing children and teens away from drugs, gangs and other criminal activity.

The annual celebration had run for several years but was not held last year because of logistical issues, Ashby said.

Among the entertainers will be Kapena and Son Caribe, the 'Ewa Elementary School Chorus, the Boys & Girls Club of Honolulu's Hale Pono Clubhouse hula band Honu Kai, Ewa by Gentry Hula, and Ewa by Gentry Karate.

Event chairman Alex Rodriguez, an Ewa by Gentry resident, said the event has served to bring together the residents of 'Ewa Beach, Ocean Pointe, Ewa by Gentry, 'Ewa Villages and West Loch.

"This year, we are friends uniting for a common goal — to help the children of our community," Rodriguez said.

Keaunui Park is at the northern end of Keaunui Drive, behind The Breakers subdivision and across from Woodbridge.
