Brushfire burns 60 acres above Pineapple Hill
Maui firefighters battled a brushfire in Kapalua for four hours yesterday before the blaze was declared under control at 7 p.m.
The fire burned about 60 acres about one-fourth of a mile above an area known as Pineapple Hill, a county spokeswoman said. No homes were threatened or injuries reported, but firefighters had to contend with winds of 10 to 25 mph.
Two helicopters and 20 firefighters from seven companies fought the fire with assistance of heavy equipment from Goodfellow Brothers and Maui Land and Pine, which were used to create firebreaks.
Firefighters planned to monitor the area overnight.
