HILO, Hawai'i — A Big Island Grand Jury has indicted a 46-year-old Pahoa woman in connection with a single-car crash that killed a man in Leilani Estates in Puna last year.

Tuesday Davis was indicted for second-degree negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident involving death or serious bodily injury.

David B. McDaniel, 44, of Kalapana died on Jan. 26, 2007 from injuries he suffered in the crash on Jan. 2.

Police said a Pahoa woman was driving a 1987 Subaru 4-door station wagon and east on Leilani Avenue shortly before 7 p.m. when the right front tire became loose, causing the woman to lose control and run off the road into a ditch.

McDaniel and a 55-year-old Pahoa man who was riding in the front seat were both injured, and McDaniel later died.

If convicted on the charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injuries, Davis faces a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. If convicted on the negligent homicide charge, Davis faces up to five years in prison.

Davis was convicted in 2001 and again in 2002 of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, according to state court records.
