Services for World War II Medal of Honor recipient Shizuya Hayashi will be held Saturday at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Shizuya died March 12 at age 90.

During World War II, Hayashi, of Pearl City, charged up a hill toward German positions on Nov. 29, 1943, and killed 20 enemy soldiers and captured four more near Cerasuolo, Italy. His actions in combat earned Hayashi a Distinguished Service Cross, which was upgraded to a Medal of Honor 57 years later.

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, with a service at 3 p.m. The Hosoi visitation and service are open only to family, friends of Hayashi and his family, veterans of the 100th Infantry Battalion and 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and designated representatives of other veteran, business, civic and military organizations.

A vigil open to the public will be from 6 to 10 p.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.
