Former Kaneohe resident and Castle High alum Dean Wilson shot a 6-under 66 today for the first-round lead at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in Avondale, La.

Briny Baird, Peter Lonard and Chez Reavie all shot 5-under 67s.

Wilson took control by going on a birdie binge on the back nine.

After recording three birdies and a bogey to make the turn at 2-under 34, Wilson birdied three holes in a row, including four in a five-hole span (Nos. 13-17).

He finished the back at 4-under 32.

First-place money in the $6.2-million event is worth $1,116,000.
