MIAMI — All-Star guard Dwyane Wade didn't start Miami's game against the Golden State Warriors on Friday night because of what the team called general soreness, adding to some serious Heat roster woes.

NBA rules mandate that a team have eight players in uniform for a game, and the Heat met that requirement for Friday's contest. But Pat Riley expected to have only seven players actually able to play against the Warriors because of an array of roster moves, suspensions and injuries.

"Taking all volunteers tonight," said Riley, whose team dropped 29 of its 32 games entering Friday and has the NBA's worst record at 11-47.

Jason Williams, Marcus Banks, Shawn Marion, Udonis Haslem and Ricky Davis were in Miami's starting lineup, with Mark Blount and Chris Quinn coming off the bench.

"We should be warm," Blount quipped.

Wade and Earl Barron were in uniform, but the team announced to fans before the game that neither was expected to play.

Wade has battled soreness in his surgically repaired left knee throughout the season, especially so over the past few days. He is expected to be able to play Saturday when Miami visits Atlanta for both a regularly scheduled game and the resumption of a suspended game from Dec. 19.

He did not speak with reporters before the game, but has said repeatedly — and as recently as Thursday — that he wants to continue playing this season, even though Miami's playoff hopes still exist only in the slimmest mathematical sense.

"Today is one of those days where it's just sore," Riley said. "I could see it in the shootaround this morning."

So, of the 15 players on the Heat roster, more than half weren't at the team's disposal Friday.

Alexander Johnson was suspended for the game because of a flagrant foul he committed against Andrea Bargnani in Wednesday's loss to the Toronto Raptors, and Barron tweaked his right knee in that game.

Alonzo Mourning (knee, quadriceps) and Dorell Wright (knee tear) are both out for the season, Smush Parker is still inactive and won't be back in a Heat uniform, and Daequan Cook and Joel Anthony have been on loan to the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League. Riley summoned them on Friday, and both are scheduled to rejoin the Heat in Atlanta.
