UH's Wichmann earns honor

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i heptathlete Annett Wichmann has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America women's track and field/cross country second team.

Last year, the Jena, Germany native earned third-team honors. She joins former UH men's volleyball standout Costas Theocharidis as the school's only two-time Academic All-America honorees.

Wichmann had a breakout junior season, starting with her second straight Western Athletic Conference pentathlon title and fourth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships. During the outdoor season, she captured her third straight WAC title in the heptathlon and qualified for her third NCAA Outdoor Championships, at which she placed sixth. She was named an All-American in both events.

Wichmann is the only Rainbow Wahine to participate in both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor championships.
