Architecture design award winners named

The Honolulu chapter of the American Institute of Architects has announced its 2008 Design Awards Winners.

Four projects were presented with Awards of Excellence this year:

  • Honolulu Fire Department Headquarters Complex, architects Lorrin Matsunaga and Gordon Wallace of Urban Works Inc.

  • 40 South School Street, architect Philip K. White of Philip K. White & Associates.

  • Kuki'o Golf Club (North Kona), architect Mark de Reus of de Reus Architects.

  • Ridge Road Residence (Ohio), architect Kelly Irvine of Collaborative Studio LLC.

    "This highest honor recognizes projects that are deemed to exemplify excellence of architectural design on all levels of analysis, and exemplify the highest standards to which AIA members aspire," according to a news release from the AIA.

    The Honolulu Fire Department Headquarters Complex also earned the "Mayor's Choice Award," while the 40 South School Street project received the "Jack C. Lipman, AIA Members' Choice Award."

    The Second Annual People's Choice Award was given to architect Zon Sullenberger, of H&S International LLC, for the Kui Kawa Residence (Hualalai).

    The awards were presented May 29 at the AIA's 50th annual celebration.
