Australia's Mitchell captures paddleboard championship on North Shore

Australia's Jamie Mitchell won the Hennessey's International Paddleboard Championship today on O'ahu's North Shore.

Mitchell completed the 7-mile course from Turtle Bay to Waimea Bay in 1 hour, 3 minutes, 57 seconds. He received $800 for the victory. Fellow Australian Jackson English placed second in 1:06:14.

Brian Rocheleau of Honolulu placed fifth overall in 1:08:08, and was the first Hawai'i finisher.

Kanesa Duncan of Honolulu won the women's division, finishing in 1:16:49. Shakira Westdorp of Australia was second in 1:19:01.

Guy Pere was the first to finish on a stand-up paddleboard with a time of 1:08:30.

It was the final "warm-up" race before the Quiksilveredition Moloka'I to O'ahu Paddleboard Race on July 27.
