Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i's Chris Lam opened the new year with the biggest win of his professional career, upsetting second-seeded Ilija Bozoljac, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, in Tuesday's opening round of the $10,000 Westgate Printing Futures. The tournament is being played in Wesley Chapel, Fla.

Bozoljac, from Serbia, is ranked 203rd in the world.

In the opening set, both players held serve to force the tiebreaker. At 4-all in the breaker, Lam hit an ace, then passed Bozoljac to make it 6-4. He won the set with a backhand winner.

Lam lost his serve to fall behind 0-2 in the second set. He broke back in the next game, then broke Bozoljac again to go up 5-4 and serve out the match.

Lam plays Canadian Milan Pokrajac today in the second round.
