HAWAI'I KAI
PUC hearing to discuss wastewater rate increase

Advertiser Staff

Hawaii American Water Co.'s proposed 16.7 percent hike in wastewater rates for single-family homes in Hawai'i Kai will be the subject of a Public Utilities Commission hearing Monday.

The company recently filed an application with the PUC saying it needed higher rates to continue its investments in system improvements. Under the proposal, single-family residential unit charges will rise to $63.65 from the current $54.55.

It has also proposed a similar percentage increase for multifamily residential units, an 8.7 percent increase for food-service operations and a 16.5 percent increase for nonfood commercial operations.

The public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Haha'ione Elementary School.
