Punahou, McKinley top seeds

Punahou and McKinley received the top seeds for this week's Hawaiian Airlines/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association girls state basketball championships.

Punahou (11-1) is the top seed in Division I and received a first-round bye, along with the other three seeded teams. Waiakea (13-0) is seeded second, followed by Kalani (13-2) and Lahainaluna (12-1).

First-round play begins Tuesday at Farrington and Kaimuki. At Farrington, defending state champion Konawaena (11-3) plays Moanalua (7-8) at 6 p.m., followed by Radford (14-1) against Roosevelt (11-4).

At Kaimuki, Maui (9-5) plays Farrington (11-4) at 6 p.m., followed by 'Iolani (12-2) against 'Aiea (9-6).

The championship game is Friday at 8 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

McKinley (14-1) is seeded first in Division II, followed by defending state champion Kamehameha-Hawai'i (10-3), Maryknoll (10-0) and Moloka'i (12-1).

First-round play begins Tuesday at Kalani and 'Aiea. At Kalani, Kapa'a (7-2) plays St. Francis (8-3) at 6 p.m., followed by University High (8-2) against Hawai'i Prep (6-8).

At 'Aiea, Kailua (12-3) plays Seabury Hall (10-3) at 6 p.m., followed by Campbell (15-1) against Hanalani (9-3).

The championship game is Friday at 6 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

'IOLANI, 'AIEA ARE NO. 1 SEEDS

'Iolani (11-2) is the top seed in Division I and received a first-round bye, along with the other three seeded teams. Konawaena (15-1) is seeded second, followed by Mililani (13-3) and Kamehameha-Maui (11-4).

First-round play begins Wednesday at McKinley and Radford. At McKinley, Kamehameha-Hawai'i (13-3) plays Kalaheo (14-1) at 6 p.m., followed by Moanalua (11-5) against Campbell (10-5).

At Radford, Punahou (10-3) plays Lahainaluna (11-4) at 6 p.m., followed by Kamehameha (11-4) against Kahuku (11-4).

The championship game is Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Blaisdell Arena.

'Aiea (16-0) is seeded first in Division II, followed by University High (9-0), Kohala (9-6) and Moloka'i (11-2).

First-round play begins Wednesday at Moanalua and Pearl City. At Moanalua, Hawai'i Baptist (8-1) plays St. Joseph (9-6) at 6 p.m., followed by Kaiser (11-6) against Word of Life (7-2).

At Pearl City, Lana'i (9-3) plays Farrington (13-3) at 6 p.m., followed by Kaua'i (8-0) against defending state champion McKinley (12-4).

The championship game is Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Blaisdell Arena.
