Japan's Yano captures Pearl Open

Associated Press

AIEA — Japan's Azuma Yano won the Pearl Open today, while 16-year-old countryman Ryo Ishikawa finished 10th.

Yano closed with a 3-under 72 for a 12-under 216 total and two-stroke victory over Hidemasa Hoshino.

Ishikawa, making his first start since becoming the youngest pro in the history of men's golf in Japan, shot a 71 to finish six strokes behind Yano.

The teen star was tied for 41st at even par after the rain-delayed first round was completed Saturday and climbed into a four-way tie for eighth with a second-round 67.

Ishikawa achieved celebrity status last May when he won the Munsingwear Open KSB Cup at age 15, making him the youngest winner of a Japanese tour event.
