You can't leave the Punahou Carnival until you've tried to win a cute little stuffed bear, or other prize, at the game booths.

If it's the first weekend in February, it must be the Punahou Carnival. Yes, boys and girls, guys and gals and parents and nonparents, today is the second and final day of the always well-attended fundraising event.

As usual, there's the full spectrum of E.K. Fernandez rides, many food booths (think Portuguese bean soup, nachos, hot dogs and hamburgers, and the irresistible malasadas), games, an art gallery and a white-elephant sale.

This year's carnival is themed "Road Trip USA: Are We There Yet?" It's sponsored, as in the past, by the school's junior class as a benefit for the financial-aid program and student activities.

Admission is free, but you'll want to purchase scrip in order to ... well, ride the rides, eat the nachos, play those games of skill and so on.

Where to park? You're not likely to find a space on campus, but there are other lots in the area that charge a fee for the privilege of parking. Or you can take the bus, Nos. 4, 5 or 18.
