Man with the moves

Pop quiz: What do you get when you combine the innocence of youth (relatively speaking, of course), the glaring sheen of big talent (the kind that less-talented people notice and resent from a distance), the responsibility of early-onset adulthood and the even bigger responsibility of swoony underage females, jittery with affection for all of the above?
Answer with Michael Jackson or Usher (both of whom fit the profile at one point in their careers) and risk making the real guy aggro he'd be a runaway success even without the influence of pop's royalty.
But really ... who hasn't made the Chris Brown-Usher-Michael Jackson comparisons? Look at those moves. The only other people who can move like that are ... ding, ding, ding! Usher and Michael Jackson. Still, the kid bless his teenage heart is trying to break away a bit from the cut-from-the-same-cloth remarks that have followed him since his debut single "Run It" shot to the top of the charts in 2005.
Brown's sophomore album, "Exclusive," is his breakaway record. The tracks and their likability can be attributed to the one-and-only Brown, the kid who knows how to throw an old-school jam, go-go style ("Throwed") and the grown-up guy who can lay down a seriously sappy ballad and still manage to hold on to his manhood ("I Wanna Be"). Incomparable? Probably.
Brown, currently on a multicity tour of sold-out shows, stops off in Honolulu for gigs Saturday (also featuring tour mate Bow Wow) and Sunday at the Blaisdell Arena. These concerts are likely to be sold out by showtime, too.
Meet the "kid" who managed to sell way more seats than superstar Kanye West did in 2006:
1. Chris Brown was born Christopher Maurice Brown in the small town of Tappahannock, Va. He also answers to "Chris Breezy."
To Chris Brown-ize any last name: Take the first one or two letters of the name and add the urban-fab suffix "eezy." Easy indeed. For example, Smith becomes Smeezy, Green becomes Greezy, Johnson becomes Jeezy and so on.
2. The day Brown was born (May 5, 1989), the No. 1 song was Madonna's "Like a Prayer."
The top five songs of 1989, according to Billboard magazine's Hot 100 chart were, in order from one to five: "Look Away," by Chicago; "My Prerogative," by Bobby Brown; "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," by Poison; "Straight Up," by Paula Abdul; and "Miss You Much," by Janet Jackson.
3. Brown's pop-star career started two years ago when he released his 2005 self-titled debut album. Since then, that album and his follow-up have been certified platinum, he's had six chart-topping singles, he's been nominated for three Grammy awards and three MTV Video Music Awards. He's won one NAACP Image Award, two BET Awards and three Billboard Awards (best new artist, best male artist and best artist).
4. At 16 years old, Brown was the first male solo recording artist to release a single ("Run It") that immediately ranked No. 1 on the Billboard singles chart.
5. Brown considers Donnie Hathaway, Otis Redding and Sam Cooke his biggest musical influences. His other influences include Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Usher.
6. Brown donated 50 cents of every ticket sold during his 2007 tour to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; he raised more than $50,000 for the cause. He continues to support the hospital by contributing to its "Math-A-Thon" program in which participants are sponsored to solve math problems correctly.
7. It was only a matter of time before Brown started jonesing for silver-screen fame. The singer can now add "actor" to his resume with his supporting roles in "Stomp the Yard" and "This Christmas." (He sang two songs on the soundtrack for "This Christmas.") He plays the lead in the upcoming basketball flick "Phenom," due later this year.
Brown has also signed a deal with the Nickelodeon television network to make a reality series starring his 9-year-old and 11-year-old backup dancers. The show follows the kids as they tour with Brown. Series dates have not yet been confirmed.
8. Brown got the first of his eight tattoos when he was 13. But he's made a number of statements to the press, saying that he's taking a break from the needle, lest he start looking "scary."
9. Brown has 1,041,708 friends on MySpace, 5,709 group members on Facebook, and at 11:03 p.m. on a Thursday night, there were 1,788 registered fans logged on to his official Web site, www.chrisbrownworld.com.
10. There is a Web page dedicated to building your own Chris Brown doll. The DIY virtual paper doll site allows fans to pick hip outfits with which to dress a skivvy-clad Brown. Find the "Chris Brown Doll Maker" at www.cartoondollemporium.com/chrisbrowndoll.html.
