CFB: 2 Michigan State players arraigned in assault

Associated Press

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Two Michigan State football players have been arraigned on misdemeanor assault charges in an off-campus fight that injured a hockey player.

The Lansing State Journal reports freshmen Glenn Winston of Detroit and Mitchell White of Livonia pleaded not guilty on Tuesday in East Lansing District Court.

Winston is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and White faces a charge of assault and battery.

Prosecutors say the Oct. 19 fight resulted in the hospitalization of sophomore hockey player A.J. Sturges with severe brain trauma, forcing him to end his hockey season early.

Winston faces up to one year in jail if convicted. White faces up to 93 days in jail.

Pretrial hearings for both men are scheduled for Jan. 14.
