CBKB: Summers' 3-pointer carries Spartans past Texas

By CHRIS DUNCAN
Associated Press

HOUSTON — Durrell Summers hit a 3-pointer with 18.6 seconds left, and No. 19 Michigan State smothered Texas star guard A.J. Abrams to beat the fifth-ranked Longhorns 67-63 at the Toyota Center today.

Summers finished with 14 points and Goran Suton had 18 for the Spartans (8-2), who went 8-for-17 from the free-throw line and were outrebounded 37-32.

Gary Johnson scored a career-high 20 for Texas (9-2). Johnson gave the Longhorns a 63-62 lead on a driving layup with 1:30 remaining.

Summers drove into the lane and lost the ball to Connor Atchley on Michigan State's next possession. Justin Mason missed a 3-pointer and the ball went out of bounds with 29.8 seconds left, giving the Spartans a chance to set up the final play.

Ramar Morgan took the inbound pass and found Summers open on the wing for a 3-pointer, his second of the game. Abrams mishandled a pass from Mason near the Texas sideline, giving the ball back to Michigan State with 13 seconds left.
