KAPOLEI, HONOLULU
Festivities will mark start of Hannemann's 2nd term

Honolulu Mayor Mayor Mufi Hannemann's second term will officially begin with his inauguration on Friday, Jan. 2, at 10 a.m. in Kapolei.

The new Honolulu City Council will be sworn in at noon at Honolulu Hale.

The mayor will take his oath of office at Kapolei Hale. This invitation-only ceremony will be for his family and members of his city cabinet.

The highlight of the day will be a formal program and concert at Hawaii Theatre, beginning at 5 p.m., followed by an inauguration-themed First Friday block party that is open to the public, beginning at 7 p.m., on Pauahi Street and surrounding Chinatown, according to a city news release.

The event will celebrate the centennial of the election of Honolulu's first mayor, Joseph Fern. In 2005-2006, the city celebrated the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the county.
