A $5 million warrant has been issued for the arrest of an admitted child molester.

Frank Lefrandt Jr., 47, pleaded guilty last month to sexually assaulting a 13-year-old newspaper carrier in August. Lefrandt was scheduled to surrender at O'ahu Community Correctional Center on Monday but did not appear, according to prosecutors.

Circuit Judge Steven Alm issued a warrant for his arrest and increased bail from $100,000 to $5 million.

Prosecutors told Alm that state sheriffs believe Lefrandt has left the island.

His car was left at the airport for an extended period of time but was later retrieved by family members.

Relatives said they do not know where he is but filed no missing-person reports, according to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.

Defense lawyer Marcus Sierra told Alm he does not know Lefrandt's whereabouts.

Lefrandt originally was charged with one count each of first- and third-degree sexual assault as well as a count of attempted second-degree sexual assault.

He pleaded guilty Nov. 17 to second- and third-degree sexual assault and one count of attempted second-degree sexual assault.

Alm ordered Lefrandt to turn himself in Dec. 1 to await sentencing Feb. 9.

Lefrandt was an independent contractor delivering The Honolulu Advertiser when the assault occurred Aug. 9.

The victim, who worked for Lefrandt, had accompanied him to Kapolei to pick up Sunday newspapers for delivery.
