Kozy Toriano and Fa'a Enos had three hits apiece, Tiana Lo added three RBIs and Lavinia Holschuh contributed clutch relief pitching as Hilo edged Tampa, Fla., 10-9, yesterday to advance to the championship game of the RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) Softball World Series at Compton, Calif.
Hilo will play Santo Domingo of the Dominican Republic in today's final of the eight-team tournament for players 19 and younger.
Holschuh, who was the winning pitcher in Hilo's 8-0 quarterfinal victory over Jersey City, N.J. earlier in the day, entered the game against Tampa in the top of sixth with two outs, the score tied at 9 and a runner on first. Clean-up hitter Amanda McGinnis blasted Holschuh's offering to right field, where Tuma Enos made a stellar catch to the inning.
Toriano hit an RBI groundout in the bottom of the sixth to put Hilo ahead, and Holschuh retired the side in order in the seventh to earn the victory.
Holschuh pitched a five-inning three-hitter, Toriano had three RBIs, and Lo and Malania Esoroma each had two hits in the win over Jersey City.
