LANA'I CITY — Maui High School's Elyse Okada shot the best round of the day by five strokes yesterday at The Experience at Koele to rally from three shots behind and win her fourth Maui Interscholastic League individual girls golf title.

Okada, who will attend Oregon State on a golf scholarship in the fall, became the first MIL golfer to win four individual titles.

Okada shot 73 for a 298 total, while Cassy Isagawa — the Baldwin freshman who led after the second and third rounds — fired an 80 for a 302 total and second place.

Baldwin sophomore Justin Keiley, meanwhile, completed a wire-to-wire run to the boys title, finishing with a 72 for a 286 total. He became just the second MIL golfer to finish the individual tournament under par — Sam Cyr of King Kekaulike, the NAIA runner-up last season at Point Loma Nazarene, was the first three years ago.

Keiley finished 15 strokes in front of St. Anthony's Taeksoo Kim (72), the 2007 champion.

Baldwin's Dayna Bersamin was third in the girls competition after a 78 gave her a total of 315, while Maui took the next four spots — Kelcie Kawano's final-round 83 left her at 322, Liana Otake carded an 82 to finish at 336, Richel Ped's 87 gave her a 348 total and Dana Cadiz shot 91 for a 372.

The second round last Saturday at Ka'anapali Kai Golf Course proved to be the big difference between the top two boys finishers — Keiley fired a 69 that day, Kim an 81.

Lahainaluna's Eric Emmel (73) and St. Anthony's Andrew Wong (79) tied for third at 302.
