A Pearl City man charged with the April 3 takeover robbery of a pool hall in Waimalu was the only one of three suspects who did not mask his face, according to a court document.

Ju Young Woo, 33, made his initial appearance at District Court today and has a preliminary hearing scheduled Monday. Woo was charged last night with first-degree robbery and four counts of kidnapping. He is being held in lieu of $750,000 bail.

An affidavit on Woo's arrest alleges he was one of three men who barged into Aiea Cue pool hall, 98-064 Kamehameha Hwy., at 2:30 a.m. on April 3 holding crowbars. One witness was reportedly tackled, handcuffed and dragged to an area of the establishment before all four employees in the pool hall were ordered to lay face down on the ground.

The suspects used a "blow torch" to break into an ATM and change machine, the affidavit said.

The robbery took 15-20 minutes and the suspects fled with $1,000 in coins and $175 cash from a register, an undisclosed amount of cash from the ATM and change machine, a laptop computer, Hawai'i state identification cards, a PlayStation unit, I-pod and video games, the document stated.

Woo was identified by investigators as the suspect without the mask and arrested April 7 at a residence in Mililani.
