WAI'ANAE
Nani 'O Wai'anae to get $5,000 for litter cleanups

Waste Management of Hawai'i will present a $5,000 Target City Award to Nani 'O Wai'anae, an all-volunteer cleanup group, at a banquet tonight at the Kahumana Community Center in Wai'anae.

The award is being given to the group in recognition of its efforts in the Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup, billed as the nation's largest community improvement program.

Coordinated statewide by the affiliates of Keep America Beautiful in Hawai'i, the campaign will involve dozens of groups sponsoring special community work days.

Last year the statewide cleanup program involved nearly 4,000 volunteers who collected more than 100,000 pounds of litter and debris.
